Backrooms Movie, YouTube, and Music
I've been keeping up with Kane Pixel's work for a little while now, so watching the Backrooms movie earlier today felt incredibly surreal. I still remember seeing it first become a meme online when I was (I think) a freshman in high school. I'm kind of surprised that the concept stuck around for as long as it did, probably because it eventually morphed into the general idea of liminal spaces, which so many people have continued to photograph and make art of. All I'll say for now is I would absolutely recommend watching it if you have any interest or have enjoyed the series so far.
Something I've been trying to do recently is quit watching YouTube videos for a little while... yes, I know that there's probably already a million posts on this website and on (ironically) every social media site about quitting social media/YouTube/etc. But I guess I didn't quite realize how difficult it would be? I've been watching YouTube since forever at this point, so it's become ingrained in me to feel the need to go on that site when I'm trying to wind down in the evening. So far I think I've been pretty successful at cutting down on a lot of the noise that comes with having videos on in the background while doing other things, but I still find that YouTube can be a helpful resource for certain hobbies or interests. I mean, it's full of guides, tutorial videos, and videos that will help me fix some incredibly random and hyper specific issue that I'm having with my Unreal Engine project. So I suppose instead of quitting it boils down to just not watching videos in the background or purely for entertainment.
Speaking of YouTube, I found this playlist in my recommended a while ago when I was grinding through projects during the school semester, and sometimes I still listen to it while working on my portfolio. A lot of jungle and drum n bass somehow seems to have just the right combination of being upbeat enough to keep me awake without being too distracting. I find this kind of music to be significantly better than most lo-fi study/work playlists, which unfortunately just aren't very inspiring.
Thanks for reading, take care 👋
